Insomnia
Before my daughter was born, I slept like a rock, but since then, I've learned to sleep a little less soundly. Okay, I know it's been over a decade, but still...someone has to listen for the noises of the night. After our near-break-in last year, I don't know that I've ever slept so soundly again.
It was before we moved to Kansas. My daughter and I lived alone in an upstairs apartment in the middle of town. I always felt safe living upstairs because I knew if anyone tried to break in, people would see them from the street, unless they had a ladder and climbed in back windows, which would be absurd. Well, on Valentine's Day, 2003, I was proved differently.
I woke in the early morning around 5ish, to a noise in the living room. I thought it might be our pet rabbit, whose cage was in that room at the time. I realized that what I heard was coming from the porch and sounded something like hail hitting the door. When I looked out the peephole, there was a guy there pounding away on my locks. He already had the deadbolt undone and was working on the lock on the doorknob. I pushed all my weight against the door and kept locking the locks as he unlocked them. I couldn't scream for some reason, but in a loud whisper, I got my daughter to wake up, and told her to call 911 to tell them someone was breaking in our apartment. I don't know if the perpetrator saw the light come on in the other room where the phone was or felt me pushing against the door. He stopped trying to get in, then knocked, which was odd. The cops were there within a few minutes. The guy was already gone, though.
That incident shook me up pretty good. We didn't sleep at home for at least a week after. I had about 3 extra locks put on the door. Anyway, maybe things like this is why I don't sleep well. I worry too much about things that go bump in the night.
I did a web search on Google for insomnia, and of course, they had a high number of hits. I came across one site that offered standard techniques, as well as some I haven't heard of before, like toe wiggling. It suggests that wiggling the toes up and down 12 times will relax the body both inside and out. Maybe I'll try this one tonight and see how it goes. If that doesn't work, I'll try another suggestion, then another, until I get back to sleeping well.
Happy dreaming!

I wish I had found you earlier. I was looking on the search engines for rabbit related websites using the keyword rabbit cage and found your awesome page with the title this post. I am looking for ideas on how to improve my own site using different keywords and was amazed how easy it was to find your site using the keyword rabbit cage. Perhaps we could do a link exchange at some point. Anyway, thanks for your time and I’m really happy I found you on the web.
